Prologue
Tick. Tick. Tick. It just keeps ticking nonstop. It ticks concurrently with my heartbeat. Each beat, each tick. As the clock in my body continue to resonate within me, curiosity continue to eat me alive. I need to know if I could fall in love without a clock telling me when I can and when I cannot. Most importantly I wanted to fast forward the time so I know who was the person I would fall in love with.
Everyone in this city has an electronic implanted in them since birth. And the time shown on the electronic counts down to the time one falls in love. The Government had posters everywhere stating how they did not want anyone of us to feel lonely in this world. And they believe one needs to have companionship. There were reform groups that did not like the idea of technology being surgically implanted into any human being, they saw this as conspiracy. One reformist had a theory that the Government wanted to use this device as a way to keep tabs on everyone so that no one rebels against the Government. That reformist was never heard of again.
However those were rumours, I for one look forward to the countdown of my clock. All my life my family had groomed me to be a proper lady, what my future husband or person I would fall in love with would most probably love about me.
I know for a matter of fact that the mechanisms in the clock releases immense amount of endorphins into our blood streams circulating our entire body. This causes us to feel such an emotion called "Love" and hence we fall in love with the first human touch we get.
